Andre de Dienes (Hungarian-Romanian, 1913–1985) is best known for his portraits of Marilyn Monroe, including those that launched her career. Before turning to fashion and celebrity photography, de Dienes worked for L'Humanité and the Associated Press. In 1938, he moved to New York City and worked for Vogue, Life, and Esquire. Among his many subjects were Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Ingrid Bergman, and Fred Astaire.
