Anthony Lister (Australian, b. 1979) is a contemporary artist closely associated with the Lowbrow movement prevalent in Los Angeles and whose focus relates the impish, gleeful and sarcastic. Following graduation from the Queensland College of Art, Lister took to the streets to develop his practice, which he believes to be a more “pure” form of art practice rather than studio work, which he believes to be more in line with “craft.” His practice combines the gestures of street art, abstract expressionism and is inspired by “misguided role models” in a way that is both alluring and grotesque. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
