Chiho Aoshima (Japanese, b. 1974) is a Japanese superflat Pop artist who began her career as a graphic artist in Takashi Murakami’s factory with no formal art training. Aoshima received her degree from the Department of Economics, Hosei University, Tokyo. Her work often depicts surreal dreamscapes, including nature, apparitions, demons, and other fantastical elements. She has said, “My work feels like strands of my thoughts that have flown around the universe before coming back to materialize.” Aoshima was a resident at Art Pace, San Antonio, Texas in 2006 and her work has been featured on the walls of New York City Transit and the Gloucester Road tube station in London.
