David Shrigley (British, b. 1968) is an artist living and working in Glasgow. He studied at Leicester Polytechnic and the Glasgow School of Art. Shrigley is known for his multimedia works, particularly his humorous and bizarre cartoons. In 2005, Shrigley designed a cover for the London Underground leaflet and since that year has contributed a cartoon the Guardian’s weekly Saturday publication. In 2013, Shrigley was nominated for the Turner Prize and in 2014, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Leicester’s De Montfort University. In 2016, his “Thumbs Up” sculpture is set to be installed in Leicester Square, London.
