Donald Baechler (American, b. 1956) is an artist who studied at Maryland Institute College of Art, Cooper Union, and Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Baechler returned to New York City from Germany in 1980, exhibiting his art at such venues as Artists Space and the Drawing Center. Tony Shafrazi, who represented such luminaries as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, took an interest in Baechler’s graffiti-esque works. Baechler has long experimented with a variety of forms and materials, always maintaining what has been dubbed his "gee-whiz approach,” a bashful, accidental creation of art.
