Doug and Mike Starn (American, b. 1961) are identical twin brothers, first rising to prominence through their inclusion in the 1987 Whitney Biennial. Their works focus largely on organic systems and structures They gained further notoriety for their Big Bambú series, a bamboo forest, iterations of which were installed at the 54th Venice Biennale and on the rooftop of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011, noted as the 9th most attended exhibition in the Museum’s history. In June of 2014, a new permanent installation of the series was installed at the Israel Museum Jerusalem sculpture garden, entitled “Big Bambú: 5,000 Arms To Hold You.”
