Günther Förg (German, 1952-2013) was a German painter praised for his take on the modernist style of painting. As a prolific multi-disciplinarian, he was particularly influential in his commentary, opinion, and diversity of the modernist scale. His works often allude to Russian Constructivism, Italian rationalism, Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. As such, Förg adopted the perspective of a postmodern retrospection, which had lost the sense of societal utopia found in the avant-garde movements. And yet, Förg took their aesthetic conceptions and refreshingly updated them.
