Peter Saul (American, b. 1934) is an artist associated with the Pop Art, Surrealist and Expressionist art movements. Inspired by comics of the 1940’s, Saul’s body of work is heavy with cartoonish characters and a vivid palette of reds, blues and greens. In this period, he created interpretations of masterpieces like Rembrandt’s "Night Watch" and Picasso’s "Guernica." His later years saw the adoption of “low” subjects which he rendered in the style of 19th century painting. His ever changing hand, though prevents definition, has been seen by some as the mark of the “artist’s artist.” Saul has been the subject of many exhibitions worldwide.
