'Yellow Flags 2' is indicative of Alex Katz’s distinctive style. Known for his colorful palette, bold lines, and compacted sense of space, Katz’s work conveys the pleasure and surprises of sight. Focusing on several cropped flowers that appear to blow in the wind against a black background, this print utilizes familiar shapes and forms to exude quiet beauty and the fleeting sense of nature.

Alex Katz (American, b. 1927) is an American figurative artist, loosely associated with the Pop Art movement. In particular, he is known for his portrait paintings of his wife, Ada. Katz studied at The Cooper Union in New York, and briefly transferred to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine. Katz has said that Skowhegan exposed him to painting from life, which became critical to his development as an artist. His work is defined by flatness of color, bold forms, and an economy of line.
