Anish Kapoor (Indian, b. 1954) is best known for his large, curved, biomorphic sculptures made of natural materials such as granite, limestone, and marble. Kapoor moved to London in the early 1970s to study art, first at the Hornsey College of Art and later at the Chelsea School of Art and Design. In 1990, Kapoor was chosen to represent Great Britain at the Venice Biennale, and received a Knighthood in 2013. More recently, Kapoor has focused on the delicate and detail-heavy art of jewelry making. Beginning with a collaboration with Bulgari, Kapoor has since expanded into his own line, making both large, extravagant works of gold and precious stones, to simpler, more accessible pieces made of silver and lacquer.
