About Antony Gormley

Antony Gormley (English, b. 1950) is an English sculptor known for his monumental works and public commissions. Gormley’s pieces, modeled after the artist himself, often explore the human form. Despite his work’s symbolic propensity, his figures usually possess very literal implications. These sculptures explore a unifying human condition and experience as they define a particular body in a particular space at a particular time. In 1994, Gormley won a Turner prize for 'Field for the British Isles' (1993).
