About Arman

Armand Pierre Fernandez (Arman) (French, 1928-2005) studied mathematics, philosophy and painting at the Ecole Nationale d'Art Decoratif in Nice. While there, he became friends with Yves Klein and Claude Pascal, and both would greatly influence his life and craft. His particular strand of conceptualism is witty and critical, often using everyday items to explore issues of consumption and waste in contemporary society. In 1961, he first exhibited in New York where he lived for the better part of his career until his death.
