Bert Stern (American, 1929-2013) was a legendary figure in the world of contemporary photography. His meteoric rise in the 1960s advertising world is best memorialized by his design for Smirnoff vodka in which an Egyptian pyramid appears inverted inside a martini glass. His best-known work is arguably “Marilyn Monroe: The Last Sitting”, a collection of 2,500 photographs of Marilyn taken for Vogue over a three-day period six weeks before her death.
