An impassioned exploration of painting, ‘Violet Light’ represents the more abstract side of Brendan Cass’ oeuvre. Featuring broad, sweeping brushstrokes of yellow, white, and red, the seemingly chaotic work is suffused with energy, joy, and the artist’s inherent trust in the medium of paint.

New York-based artist Brendan Cass (American, b. 1974) combines action painting and expressionism to create energetic, experiential works. Reminiscent of Fauvist masters Henri Matisse and André Derain, his work is characterized by dynamic colors, and generous impasto brushwork. Often depicting natural landscapes, his work bridges the pictorial and the abstract, favoring the paint’s ability to express his intent over formal details. His work has been shown internationally at Galerie Zürcher, the Lars Bohman Gallery, and the Kenny Schachter Gallery.
