Exploring the dichotomies of life and death, and terror and joy, Charming Baker’s (England, b. 1964) artistic practice emphasizes the human condition and experience. Though a sculptor and a draftsman, Baker primarily focuses on painting, narrative, and texture, and is known to purposefully damage his own work in order to question the definition of art and beauty. One of his collaborative pieces, ‘Triumph in the Face of Absurdity,’ was displayed at the Victoria & Albert Museum for the 2012 London Olympics, and he has exhibited his work across the United States and United Kingdom.
