In creating this portrait the artist worked from a photo of Simon Hodgson-Greaves who has been missing since 2013.
'This photo captures Simon’s personality so well: extroverted, fun, smart (both intellectually and sartorially), unpredictable, grandiose, creative and extraordinary. In the photo, Simon is playing to the camera in his usual way. He didn’t even need glasses, but he had a vast collection and wore a pair every day without fail!' Rachel Pickthall, Simon's sister

Chris Moon (English) is an English painter currently living and working in East London. Moon rose to prominence with his 2011 series “Home” and his 2012 series “Reverie,” which were both commercial successes. His graphic style, in which he combines both abstract and figurative painterly processes, celebrates overlooked moments in everyday life. His work defies categorization as it subtlety navigates a wide range of historical styles, philosophies and tropes. Prior to his first shows, Moon spent eight years painting works, which he then destroyed because they “didn’t get to the bare soul of the painting.” He tirelessly focuses on the idea of containment, “containing chaos and emotion on the canvas.”
