Dan Hillier lives and works in Hackney, London.
Hillier's main practice involves collaging found materials, mainly from 1800s wood-engravings, with his own drawing to eventually produce large scale screen prints. Often fantastical and unsettling, his human/animal/plant/cosmic hybrids explore the distinctions and relationships between human life, nature, cosmos and other mysterious, often hallucinatory, aspects of being, which he describes as a ‘good-time romp through light and dark, nature and wonder’.
Hillier has collaborated with a number of clients, including Neil Gaiman, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, The Folio Society, Glastonbury Festival and rock bands Architects, The Broken Family Band and Royal Blood, for whose eponymous chart-topping debut album he won Best Vinyl Art Award. In 2015 he was invited by the British Council to represent Great Britain at the Giant Creator Show in Beijing, China.
Ghost with Twenty Golden Faces was part of Hillier’s Ceremony solo show at Saatchi Gallery in 2016/17.
