Dan Rees (Welsh, b. 1982) is a Welsh contemporary artist who is known for his extremely diverse practice. His works, ranging from Artex-coated paintings (the plaster decoration associated with Britain’s working class) to sculptural glass vitrines housing white canvases, redefine and blur the lines between painting and sculpture. Due to this ambiguity, he provokes consideration of more traditional frameworks like surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, as well as color-field painting. Rees successfully negotiates and profoundly links the dichotomy between the tactile and the two dimensional with a technical mastery and education that arrests by virtue of the ignored and the overlooked. Rees received his BFA from Camberwell College of Arts, London Institute, and the Stastliche Hochscshule fur Bildende Kunste Stadelschule.
