Exploring themes of identity, class, and decay, Danny Fox’s ‘Cornish Landscape with Leisure Centre’ depicts a blandly named building whose dark color palette conveys anything but relaxing leisure activities. Composed using Fox’s abrasive and confrontational style, the work is meant to shock both the high-brow tendencies of the art world and force the viewer to question their idea of leisure in a modern, branded world.

The works of self-taught artist Danny Fox (British, b.1986) are often roughly rendered portraits and landscapes. At first glance, the simple hues and unsophisticated forms he favors appear emotive, yet simplistic, if not naive. However, Fox’s use of color and form are moody and confident, conscious explorations of class, Western culture, and societal decay. Fox has exhibited his work across the globe, including such institutions as London’s Saatchi Gallery and the Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery in Luxembourg.
