Immediately recognizable by their hand-painted “Ciavete” designs, the bicycles of Dario Pegoretti bear the hallmarks of both technical power and sheer artistry. Pegoretti founded his own workshop in 1998 after more than two decades spent refining his practice. Always maintaining a limited output, he drew particular attention for his pioneering use of lugless TIG welding, and was one of the last bicycle makers to stop supplying steel frames for the Tour de France. According to Chad Nordwall, owner of high-end California bicycle store Above Category where Williams was a regular customer, Williams kept Pegoretti bicycles in his house in anticipation of his next ride.
