Donald Sultan (American, b. 1951) is a native of North Carolina, and earned his BFA from the state university in Chapel Hill. Shortly after, he went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago and subsequently moved to New York City to pursue a career in the arts. Sultan's signature dichromatic, shadow-like style feature elevated renderings of lemons, poppies, eggs, playing cards, and other objects. Sultan has described his minimalist aesthetic as 'heavy structure, holding fragile meaning' with the ability to 'turn you off and turn you on at the same time.' He currently lives and works in New York City.
