Employing typographic elements indicative of Ed Ruscha’s oeuvre, ‘Miracle’ reconciles the artist's stark aesthetic and thematic approach with the celestial tones one associates with a miracle. Amid a sparkling gray background, the viewer can discern the title text as well as a ray of light emanating from the upper right corner, as if the work itself was blessed by the heavens.

Edward (Ed) Ruscha IV (American, b. 1937) is associated with the Pop art movement. Encompassing painting, drawing, and photography, Ruscha's works hold a mirror up to the banality of urban life and give order to the barrage of mass media-fed images and information that confronts us daily. Ruscha's early career as a graphic artist continues to strongly influence his aesthetic and thematic approach. He regularly combines the cityscape of his adopted hometown of Los Angeles with a typically American vernacular to communicate a particular urban experience.
