The feelings and nostalgia of love, reason, and life. Naked existence, to be fragile and strong simultaneously. The glance to the future with knowledge of the past.

“This thoughtful canvas centers on the sinuous form of a topless woman facing away from the viewer. Her figure is highlighted by blue light, a reflection of the moody, deeply-layered background. Her torso is painted in a technique reminiscent of classical contrapposto, and the fabric draped across her lower body recalls that of Greek and Roman statues. Meanwhile, the shape of the protagonist recalls the Neo-Expressionist forms of artists such as Francesco Clemente and David Salle. These broad references are a testament to Abramova’s expansive style and abilities. The woman looks longingly toward the future while she simultaneously leans physically into the past—a tension that similarly reflects Abramova’s ability to move between mediums and styles.”
