This painting is part of a series based on headscarf patterns found in the artists’ native country, Turkey. “Hidden behind those hallucinatory colors rendered through pop and psychedelic patterns, one can easily discern the curves of the inner and outer parts of the female body. There seems to be a wink here to Judy Chicago’s conception of “central-core” imagery, which Uras blends with other cultural references, such as the floral imagery of Ottoman tiles.” From The Multiple Visions of Modernity and Elif Uras’s Jeune Femme in Elif Uras, published by Galerist and Revolver, November 2018
