Crafted out of retired skate decks, Japanese artist Haroshi’s sculptures are exciting and dynamic compositions. Captured in this image is an example of the artist’s ‘Still Pushing Despite the Odds’ exhibition at the Jonathan Levine Project in 2015. This print captures the lively horse’s vibrant pelt of many colors and the artist’s consummate skill in this uncommon medium.

About Haroshi

Haroshi (Japan, b. 1978) turned his passion for skateboarding into an art form. The self-taught woodworker fashions dynamic sculptures from skateboard decks. After a labor intensive process of layering, the finished works appear to be striped, composed of tier upon tier of varnished and veneered decks. Haroshi’s stratified rainbow masterpieces are an eclectic mix of subjects: from humans and animals, to sneakers and fire hydrants. The artist has exhibited extensively in Japan and the United States, and been involved in projects with notable brands like Nike.
