Sir Howard Hodgkin (English, 1932-2017) is known for his paintings and collaborative works that draw upon certain narratives and emotions. During the 1960s, he was peripherally associated with the British Pop art movement, and in the 1980s and 1990s became a prominent and critically acclaimed painter who was crowned with a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in 2010-2011. The Whitechapel Gallery has named him the first ever Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon.
