Sir Howard Hodgkin (English, 1932-2017) was known for his narrative paintings and collaborative emotional works. During the 1960s, he was peripherally associated with the British Pop art movement, and in the 1980s and 1990s, he became a prominent and critically-acclaimed painter. In 2010, he exhibited a one-man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Whitechapel Gallery named him the first ever Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon.
