"This work explores our cultural connection to Native Americans in a contemporary style. "
- Jacqueline Acker

"The paintings in this diptych demonstrate Acker’s proficiency in figural painting. Both an artist and lawyer, Acker chose the bison and the face of a Native American woman as her subjects . She contrasts the vibrant blue sky against the neutral brown tones of the figures, calling attention to their presence. The colors used in both of the figures reference one another. Additionally, the artist places the figures in similar positions on the partnered canvases. Together, these similarities remind the viewer of the historical connection between Native Americans and the American bison, an animal held sacred and used in religious ceremonies, and for weapons, food, and shelter.”
