James Siena (American, b. 1957) is known for his linear-based abstracts. Working in a variety of mediums including painting, etching, lithography, and drawing, he works by creating a set of artistic rules on which to base the next piece, referred to by Sienna as “visual algorithms.” His work can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
