"Internal" was created with nothing but pieces of paper. Each part of the piece was made from a book containing images of rugs or classical era paintings and one book, of criminal photography. Ultimately, "Internal" was created to represent a physical manifestation of anxiety and internal struggle. Whether or not the subject is becoming overwhelmed by the emotion or overcoming it depends on the viewer.
“I first became familiar with Jan’s work over Instagram. Her distinctive collages are meticulous, detailed, and provocative. Jan also uses the streets of New York as a platform to share her work, and you might find her paste-ups while taking a stroll in Dumbo, Williamsburg, or Soho. Jan’s struggles not only drive her passion but also encourage her to find and express inner peace.”
