Jenny Holzer (American, b. 1950) is a conceptual artist, concentrating on text-based works drawn from the rhetoric of advertising. Holzer then projects, prints, and disseminates her works in public places, publications, and on clothing. Like many feminist artists who emerged in the 1980s, her work is concerned with a critique of contemporary media by appropriating its forms. She was the first woman to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale in 1990, securing the prestigious Leone d’Oro for her pavilion and has received numerous other awards for her work.
