Joe Bradley’s drawings have the immediacy of a quick doodle but the sensitivity of a reverently executed work. This apparent contradiction is established by what the artist calls the "shoddiness" of his materials but the care taken in deploying them. This profile on a folded piece of paper suggests naive images of Jesus, although Bradley is careful to imply contexts and meanings only ambiguously and obliquely.

Joe Bradley (American, b. 1975) is an artist currently living and working in New York City. His chalky anthropomorphic shapes consume dirty canvases of overlapping pools of colors. These floating compositions recall a generation of Post-war European abstraction reminiscent to Art Brut. He received his BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.
