Joe Bradley’s drawings have the immediacy of a quick doodle but the sensitivity of a reverently executed work. This apparent contradiction is established by what the artist calls the "shoddiness" of his materials but the care taken in deploying them. This profile on a folded piece of paper suggests naive images of Jesus, although Bradley is careful to imply contexts and meanings only ambiguously and obliquely.

Joe Bradley (American, b. 1975) is a painter, draughtsman, sculptor, and mixed media artist. Having transitioned from landscapes to abstraction, he is best known for chalky, anthropomorphic shapes, reminiscent of the Art Brut movement. Reductive and nonfigurative, his works convey a sense of familiarity and depth, despite their lighthearted subject matter, and have been exhibited internationally.
