“The grand scale of this work and the use of Cyrillic calligraphy encompassing the surface create a fully immersive viewing experience. Linguistic expression in art speaks to Abramov’s Russian roots and his identity as a graffiti artist. The turquoise lettering, bold against the ebony backdrop, and the thin bronze lines disrupting the Cyrillic path produce a layer of depth. However, the dark abyss in the background of the work also peeks out from beneath the calligraphy. The abstract forms depart from traditional elements of language, looking toward the present and future, as lines become more fluid in the space. Abramov keeps the lettering inside a thin bronze frame and creates sections as windows for the viewer to understand the artwork.”
