About Laurie Simmons

Laurie Simmons (American, b. 1949) is a photographer who lives and works in New York. She received her BFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Simmons is widely recognized for her dollhouse tableaux that often incorporate dummies, dolls, and objects on legs to explore the domestic realm. These mises en scène often exhibit lighting characteristic of film and theatre sets, suspending belief and demanding the viewer’s participation in fantasy and fiction.
