So named for its distinctive orange hue, ‘Tangerine’ is a linear sketch of two males, intertwined in a moment of tender embrace. Their elongated bodies and slightly distorted limbs, reminiscent of surrealism, lend a contemporary flair to this piece of representational art.

About Louis Fratino

Figurative oil painter Louis Fratino (American, b. 1993) is best known for his tender and emotive portraits of queer male forms. Depicted within shallow spaces, Fratino’s figures take up the majority of his composition, leaving little to no negative space. His quick, confident brushstrokes portray stylized, yet realistic male bodies while his sensual lines convey feelings of intimacy and desire, creating an honest expression of contemporary gay love. His work has been exhibited alongside drawings by Matisse at Cabinet Printemps, and in solo shows at the Jeff Bailey Gallery, Antoine Levi, and Skkema Jenkins & Co.
