About Man Ray

Man Ray (American, 1890–1976) was a modern artist closely associated with the Dada and Surrealist movements. He is considered to be one of the top 25 most influential artists of the 20th century. Ray began creating ready-mades and involving himself with the avant-garde of the early 20th century, developing his own technique which he called “rayographs,” images created by placing an object directly on a piece of photographic paper and exposing it to light to capture its impression. He was represented in the first Surrealist exhibition, La Peinture Surrealiste, in Paris 1925 with Jean Arp, Max Ernst, Joan Míro and Pablo Picasso.
