About Marcel Dzama

Marcel Dzama (Canadian, b. 1974) engages across various mediums, producing prints, sculpture, film, and dioramas. Receiving his BFA from the University of Manitoba in 1997, he has since created fanciful worlds of hybridized animals, dancing figures, and popular iconography in muted colors and simple draftsmanship. Dzama pokes fun at culturally relevant figures and practices in a manner that has been fondly described as both “oddly erotic and calmly macabre.” Having achieved an undeniable cult following, his work has been acquired by numerous well-respected institutions, including the Andy Warhol Foundation as well as the private collections of Spike Jonze, Brad Pitt, and Gus Van Sandt.
