This work ships from the United States.
“Steamboat Lake, CO 3” is from the artist’s “Lakes & Reservoirs” series in which he photographs bodies of water in the western United States, and then submerges each print in samples collected from the subject of the photograph. The works are soaked for days, weeks, or even months, and this process warps the image’s colors, creating an effect that hovers between representation and abstraction.

Matthew Brandt (American, b. 1982) is a photographer currently living and working in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from the Cooper Union, New York and his MFA from University of California, Los Angeles. His landscape photographs provide an original take on traditional 19th century practices. He often incorporates unorthodox materials into the development process to obscure and warp the image, resulting in a psychedelic effect. This technique culminates in large-scale photographs carefully created as a representation of how Brandt views the world.
