“Blah, Blah, Blah” signifies ennui, vapidity, and frustration, but Mel Bochner renders the word with a meticulousness and care which contradicts its signification. This theme is at the heart of Bochner’s artistic and critical enterprise, which attempts to demonstrate the complexities of visual and linguistic modes of signifying.

About Mel Bochner

Mel Bochner (American, b. 1940) is known as a conceptual artist and his show at the School of Visual Arts is regarded as a seminal show in the conceptual art movement. In Bochner’s words, “whether in the public or the private domain, my recent work attempts to confront the ideologies and hidden agendas of language. Because as recent history has painfully taught us, all abuses of power begin with the abuse of the language.” He currently lives and works in New York.
