About Michael Brennan

Photographer Michael Brennan (British, b. 1943) has had a long and varied career, beginning as a news photographer in the early 1960s. A recipient of numerous accolades, including the 1969 award for British Photographer of the Year, Brennan, who shot for Sports Illustrated, LIFE, and the Daily Mail, is best known for his iconic photographs of renowned boxer Muhammad Ali, one of which was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC, in 2011. Brennan also photographed numerous prominent 20th-century cultural figures, including Mick Jagger, Queen Elizabeth II, and Nelson Mandela, and covered such major world events as the Indo-Pakistani War and the nascent Troubles in Northern Ireland.
