Dark, yet luminous, photographer Michael Søndergaard’s 'Nate', appears more baroque than contemporary, in a manner akin to such masters as Caravaggio and Georges de La Tour. Søndergaard’s background in religious studies is evident in this haunting and etherial portrait. The feather which frames the subject's unblemished face, is a feature often used by the Danish artist. Søndergaard’s portraits of unsullied youths are arresting examinations of gender, beauty, and masculinity.
