Michelle Grabner (American, b. 1962) works in a variety of media, including drawing, painting, and sculpture. She is best known for abstract paintings and drawings that draw on textile patterns appropriated from everyday domestic fabrics, such as tablecloths and quilts. In addition to her studio practice, she is highly active as a curator, educator, and critic: Grabner co-curated the 2014 Whitney Biennial, and is the founder and director of The Suburban, an exhibition space in Oak Park, IL, and the Poor Farm, an artist residency program in rural Wisconsin. She is also the chair of the painting and drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a senior critic in the painting department at Yale.
