Merging the influences of Street Art and Pop, Mr. Brainwash appropriates images from a wide range of sources, from art history to entertainment and consumer culture, subverting their typical meanings and associations through his alterations and juxtapositions. As in many of his works, “Love is the Answer” employs light-hearted humor, creating an endearing image that plays on common truths and aspirations. Here, an image of Alfred Einstein holding a ‘60s-style hippie placard bearing the slogan 'Love is the Answer', is set against a dynamic, colorful background that pays homage to several of Mr. Brainwash’s influences, including Keith Haring and Andy Warhol.

The pseudonym of Thierry Guetta (French, b. 1966), Mr. Brainwash is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and Pop artist who burst onto the scene with his 2008 solo exhibition, “Life is Beautiful”. This exhibition was documented in Banksy’s 2010 film, “Exit Through the Gift Shop.” Guetta’s backstory is famously murky; he has claimed to be an orphan and a cousin of artist Invader, but many people doubt the authenticity of his story. After filming artists such as Shepard Fairey, he only began creating his own work after a suggestion from Banksy. Mr. Brainwash’s art includes paintings and silkscreens of world icons, portraits of music legends constructed of broken records, and large-scale sculptural installations.
