The present image was created in Nan Goldin’s signature style of naturally posed subjects in a quiet moment.

About Nan Goldin

Nan Goldin (American, b. 1953) is an American photographer living and working in New York, Berlin, and Paris. Her first solo show in 1973 in Boston explored her photographic insights into the city’s gay and transsexual communities. Goldin graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University in 1977 and 1978, respectively, and moved to New York City. In New York, she explored and documented the city’s post-punk music scene and the post-Stonewall gay subculture of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her images, shot with available light and often displayed as a slideshow, explore themes such as love, gender, and sexuality. Most recently, she has photographed campaigns for Bottega Veneta, Scanlan & Theodore, Jimmy Choo, and Dior.
