Natan Dvir’s series Platform (2016) captures the artist’s observations of people waiting on New York City subway platforms and the irony of how individuals experience isolation within a city of 8.5 million residents. Having recently moved to New York from his native Israel, Dvir was struck by the ways people avoid touching or interaction. Standing on the opposite platform of his subjects, the subway’s beams frame them as if in individual filmstrips, in an ever-moving narrative of human disconnection.
