“Close Encounters” features one of street art duo Os Gêmeos’s signature yellow figures clad in vibrantly patterned clothing. Here, the slowly-sinking figure reaches out for a floating block with faces on each side; meanwhile, two miniature faces peek out from behind masklike holes in the figure’s breast pockets, invoking a palpable surrealist influence in the pair’s iconic style.

Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, "Os Gêmeos" (Brazilian, b. 1974) are identical twin brothers ("Os Gêmeos" is Portuguese for "The Twins"). They started painting graffiti in 1987 that was inspired by traditional hip-hop style and their Brazilian culture. Beginning their career as break-dancers and then moving onto graffiti, Os Gemeos attempted to emulate American culture though soon focused on Brazilian vernacular. They have painted all over the world, including in Portugal, London at the Tate Modern, Berlin and America.
