The Beatles’ ’Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album cover resulted from a collaboration between the band and British artist Peter Blake. Blake first imagined a mass of past and present celebrities on the cover, and designed it with the band’s input, resulting in the now well-recognized composition.

Peter Blake (English, b. 1932) is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of British Pop. Inspired by the ephemerality of popular culture, Blake often includes well known imagery from advertisements, music hall entertainment, and athletics into his many-layered collages. The London artist’s best known for his direction of the the Beatles' ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ cover art. He was appointed a Royal Academician (RA) in 1981 and knighted for his service to the arts in 2002.
