Peter Blake’s ‘Running Suite’ commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Great North Run, a popular half marathon between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields, England. Combining archival material and memorabilia from the race itself with Blake’s Pop Art aesthetic, each work celebrates the tradition of running and its global history.

About Peter Blake

Peter Blake (English, b. 1932) is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of British Pop. Inspired by the ephemerality of popular culture, Blake often includes well known imagery from advertisements, music hall entertainment, and athletics into his many-layered collages. The London artist’s best known for his direction of the the Beatles' ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’ cover art. He was appointed a Royal Academician (RA) in 1981 and knighted for his service to the arts in 2002.
