Known for his touches of “magical realism," Peter Doig creates mysterious, ethereal scenes that suggest an alternate universe in which fantasy and reality collide. Inspired by his childhood years in Trinidad, where he permanently relocated in 2002, he often reimagines tropical scenes suggestive of a distant paradise. This print depicts a lone figure set against a moody, dark-toned background, enlivened by a bright palm tree.

Peter Doig (Scottish, b. 1959) has become one of the most influential and critically acclaimed painters living today. Much of his work re-appropriates the vast and wrought history of painting through rich renderings of alternative scenes, rich with both romanticism and highly evocative of imagery and trends of contemporary culture. His work has been described as that of “magical-realism,” befitting his love of the Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch.
