Rashid Johnson (American, b. 1977) is a socio-political photographer, audio and video artist, and sculptor. He was first recognized for his exhibition “Freestyle,” which was curated by Thelma Golden at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 2001. Johnson received his BFA at Columbia College, Chicago in 2001 and his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2005. In 2012, Johnson was a Hugo Boss Prize finalist. His work has been exhibited at renowned institutions, such as The Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Walker Art Center.
