Richard Hambleton emerged from the 1980s art scene in New York City. Shadowman, a recurring theme in his work, is typically displayed as a silhouetted figure shaped by black splashy ink. The Shadowman figures were painted onto hundreds of buildings across New York. Once a street art tag, the Shadowman motif eventually transferred from the sides of buildings to canvas and paper.
